SUSTAINABLE DESIGN | ARCHITECTURE


InterContinetal Phuket Resort is a splendid showcase of Thai heritage intertwined with contemporary arts, designed by award-winning Bangkok based Habita Architects.

サステイナブルなデザインと建築 

インターコンチネンタル·プーケット·リゾートはバンコクで数多くのリゾートホテルの設計をしているハビタ・アーキテクツ（建築事務所）が手掛けており、歴史と現代のアートを上手く混合した仕上がりになっています。


The resort occupies two distinct land areas: One next to the beach and the other larger portion of the resort on the flat land next to the hillside. Most of the existing pine trees were retained on the beach side, however those that were cut down were used for interior decorations and walls.

リゾートは海側と山側の2つのエリアに別れていて、山側は海側に比べて土地エリアが広く、平な場所に建てられています。一方の海側は多くの松の木が集結するビーチフロントに建設されたにもかかわらず、切り倒した松の木は数本で、これらの木材はリゾートのインテリア等に使用されています。

Hotel key cards made out of wood, not plastic. Sustainable living is also evident through hotel-grown herbs which are used for various dishes served here at the restaurants.

お部屋のキーカードは木でできていて、とてもエコ。サステイナビリティの意識が高く、ホテルには何種類かのハーブも育てており、それらはレストランの食材に使われています。


SENSE OF PLACE - THE SPIRITUAL ASPECTS

The design concept is “Thai-ness”. Habita Architect wanted to create a visual and architectural representation of such “Thai-ness” that beholds the spirit of ‘Traibhumikatha’, the oldest Thai text, which sets out an explanation of heaven. 


「タイらしさ」というデザイン・コンセプトと、“天国のイメージ”を伝うタイの古き文「トライブミカタ」を結合し生み出された楽園でもあります。

As this place was inspired by “Traibhumikatha”, an oldest Thai text which sets out an imagery of Heaven, the estate was a perfect canvas for the Architects to illustrate this concept of “Heaven on Earth” with focus on four central components (stated below).

The Form of Heaven

Thai temples in ancient mural painting’s, heaven’s pavilions are interpreted to be grand and tall, with the uppermost spire reaching up to the sky. This spire form can be seen in the resort’s main pavilion, the centerpiece of this heavenly place.

The Sky on Earth

The external walls of the Cluster Villas display reflective glass mosaic tile finish. These walls enclose the axial passage to the main pavilion, reflects the sky and makes guests feel lighter as if they are walking on the clouds.

光を反射するモザイクタイルで作られた壁と壁の間を通り抜ける瞬間は、まるで雲の上を歩いているかのよう．

The Passage to Heaven

Perception of ‘heaven exists up above, not the ground’ is applied. This is represented by the stairs ascending to the main pavilion.

The Angel’s Floating Abode

In the Thai text, buildings which exist in heaven are believed to float in the sky, embraced by the sacred ocean. In the same way, the main pavilion is surrounded by a large lotus pond and the resort by the sea. This idea is reinforced by the reflection of the sky on the pond and the silver wall leading to the main pavilion.

「天国は空に浮かんでいる」というタイの古き文のように、メインパビリオンも蓮池に囲まれていて、まるで水辺に浮かんでいるイメージ．

THE ALTAR


Staffs pay respect and give offerings daily to the spiritual protectors of the place.

こちらの祭壇では、ホテルスタッフが毎朝お供え物をし、祈りを捧げている．

ARTFUL ATMOSPHERE


Various sculptures and paintings were created for the resort upon focusing on the four central components of heaven.
 Artists re-interprets ‘Traibhumikatha’ from their perspectives.

リゾート内には、天国に纏わる4つの要素を秘めたアートワークも．．アートワークは全てアーティスト達の視点から描いたトライブミカタ（天国）なのです。

Lecturer in Fine Arts, Dr. Karn Payungphan’s artwork is known as “The Realm of the Mind”.

美術の教授でもあるカーン・パユンパン氏によって映し出されたアートワークも天国を描写した意味深い作品。

Independent artist, Komkrit Teptian’s collective statuary arts reflects Thai beliefs and culture about heaven and earth.

Chic Uniforms
: Designed by Natthanicha Thanalongkorn, the uniform colors and patterns symbolize the natural landscapes of the surrounding mountains and the sea.

Let me introduce you to my favorite room,  Club InterContinental Ocean View Room which is a spacious 46 sqm room with one King size bed.

Spacious and open lobby here at the InterContinental Phuket Resort is one of the most welcoming and healing lobby with an axial view of the Sawan ‘Heavenly’ pavilion.

Kaanda is a petit boutique right beside the lobby. 
If you’re looking for new swimwear, accessories, tanning cream or beach baskets, this is the place to visit during your stay.

ロビーの真横には可愛いアクセサリーや水着を販売しているお洒落なブティック-KAANDA。

CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL LOUNGE

Club InterContinental Lounge is located in the beachfront area with a large private sundeck and an infinity pool. 
Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, the Club privilege will elevate one’s experience with a range of exclusive benefits including personalized butler and concierge service, complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and sunset cocktails & canapés.

These crystal bowls are said to activate these energy stone bracelets (you basically place your elemental bracelet inside the bowl, meditate and start moving the stick in a circular motion until you hear a healing sound). Types of stones vary according to the year you are born in, with 5 elements to choose from: Water, Wood, Fire, Metal,

クラブ内にはこんな面白いサービスも。クリスタル・ボウルの中に自分の干支に纏わる石で作られたブレスレットを入れ、清める（ボウルの周りを棒でなでる）儀式を体験することができます。ブレスレットは持ち帰ることができます。

SAWAN (HEAVENLY) PAVILION LOUNGE


This is the resort’s main pavilion and the centerpiece.
The white and silver toned Heavenly Pavilion Lounge is the masterpiece of the Resort, inspired by the mythical Himmapan Forest. The tea lounge is located on the 2nd floor just above the Spa. At Sawan beans & Leaves Bar, they serve handpicked wild grown teas from Chiang Mai, organic coffee from local farmers and the finest organic Thai cacao chocolates. 
This was the only place I did not have the moment to visit, though they have everything I crave for.. At least I have something to look forward to on my next stay here.

パビリオンの２階は『サワン・ビーンズ＆リーブズ バー』という名のラウンジで、１階はスパ施設になっています。『サワン・ビーンズ＆リーブズ バー』では、オーガニック・コーヒーやチャンマイ産の有機茶、オーガーニック・カカオで作られたチョコレート等を味わうことができます。

Pinto takes inspiration from Old Phuket Town and quirky shophouse eateries and here, you can enjoy international gourmet cuisine in a family setting.

『PINTO（ピント）』ではハイエンドでカジュアルな多国籍料理を楽しむことができます。ファミリー向けのこちらのレストランはオールド・プーケット・タウンやショップ・ハウス（昔ながらの狭く細長い家屋形式の建物）がモチーフで、インテリアからは歴史を感じられます。

Breakfast buffet is also held here each morning with many healthy options.

Contemporary Thai fine-dining sources its products from island’s fishermen and farmers. 
Thoughtfully created dishes incorporates the freshest farm-to-table produce, sustainably sourced ingredients from traditional and authentic recipes.

『JARAS （ジャラス）』は現代的なタイ専門・高級ダイニングレストラン。
ご当地のエキゾチックなお食事をいただけます。

Breakfast buffet is also held here each morning. Food option in the morning is slightly less than Pinto but it comes with a magnificent openness and view.
I highly recommend their Pad Thai for lunch.

ジャラスでは、ビュッフェスタイルの朝食をいただくことができます。ピントに比べて朝食のオプションは減りますが、オープンな空間と景色をエンジョイしたい方にはこちらがおすすめ。ランチにはパッタイをおすすめ。

A luxurious style barefoot beach bar and lounge that serves poolside favorites and cocktails. My afternoon sip on coconut juice while healed by the sound of waves.


『PINE（パイン）』は海辺にあるミニマルなビーチバー。
プールサイドでカクテルやフルーツを楽しんだり、夕日を眺めながら一杯のんだり、いろいろな楽しみ方ができるバーです。

SATI SPA & WELLNESS


Sati Spa and Wellness, the hotel’s signature spa located at Sawan Pavilion enhances the journey to mindfulness with exceptional signature treatments in line. 
The spa is inspired by the concept of ‘Sawan’ (‘Heaven’ in Thai).

Sati Spa and Wellness, the resort’s signature spa is also located below the lounge. The spa was meticulously positioned here with a thought to cause guest’s mind and soul elevate higher toward the Heavenly Pavilion and up toward the sacred sky, both during and post mindful treatment experiences.

There are 8 exquisite treatment rooms in total, with 8 unique room names derived from different types of Thai flowers.

Bright and clean looking fitness center is located on the mountain villa side, next to Pinto. 
There is also a tennis court at the InterContinetal Phuket Resort.

明るくて清潔なフィットネスセンターは、マウンテン・ビラ側にあります。
リゾートのテニスコートでも体を動かすことができます。

PLANET TREKKERS KIDS CLUB

Finally, there is also the Planet Trekkers Kids Club just below the fitness center which makes mommy/daddy staycation a little more flexible.
